Referral Challenge Graham Southwell - BNI New Zealand |
| |
We all know that the way that BNI works is by everybody being prepared to give business to others when they come across referral opportunities. This focus on what you are able to give, rather than what you are getting is what makes BNI a truly unique organisation. The philosophy is of course, based on the fact that if everybody is thinking the same way, you will inevitably be the recipient of referral business.
The ...

The Successful Invitation Carol Grebe, Executive Director, San Francisco North Bay, CA |
| |
It's not always what you say but what you don't say. When inviting someone to your chapter, don't tell them too much. The less you say the better. Here are 6 things not to say and one, sure-fire way to attract visitors to your chapter.
6 "Don'ts"
Never mention the following, whether on the telephone or face to face:
· 7:00 a.m.;

Be Your Own Publicist
|
| |
Forget stepping into the spotlight. Here’s how to create your own.
Tom Hanks doesn’t need anyone’s help. Not anymore. If you’ve ever seen the American show bosom buddies you’ll know the reason. It ran for four years, and Hanks never won an Emmy award for it, but he put on a dress and everyone in town suddenly knew his name. Tom Hanks was visible.

Keeping Track
|
| |
What is your modus operandi as regards your BNI referrals, both given and received? Do you simply move from one referral to the next, or are you keeping track of what you fed into the network and what you received from it?
Alongside you’ll find a tracking system devised by Ivan Misner (as published in his book “the worlds best known marketing secret”). This provides a great way of keeping abreast with your ...

Social Capital With BNI
|
| |
You've heard of financial capital but, have you heard of "social capital"?
Financial capital is generally considered to be wealth that is accumulated individually or in a business and used, or available for use, in the production of more wealth. "Social capital" is in fact very similar. It, too, is accumulated by an individual or business and used or available for use in the production of wealth. Social c...

7 Ways to Leverage 60 Seconds J. Lance Mead, U.S. Nat'l Training Director |
| |
People often look at networking as a tired term, but it can be your stepping stone to greater influence, recognition, and ultimately, referrals. When meeting someone new, here are 7 proven steps to improve your networking ability:
1. Introduce yourself clearly and concisely.
Though this may seem obvious, it is often overlooked or done poorly. First, say your name and company, then ask for the same from you...

BNI - More Than a Meeting by Ivan R. Misner, Ph.D. |
| |
The year 2003 starts BNI's 18th year of operation. When I started the organization, generating new business for people in a positive, supportive, and structured word-of-mouth marketing program was foremost in my mind. However, over time I learned that there were many more benefits that members experienced in addition to getting more referrals and new business. Early on, I learned that BNI truly is "more than a meeting." It's about a system, teamwork, exper...

How Enthusiastic Are You
|
| |
Enthusiasm is something to get excited about! Have you heard the story told about playwright and US ambassador to Italy Claire Booth Loose? She became a Roman Catholic late in life and, like many others converted to something new, she seemed to possess limitless enthusiasm and energy about her new faith. A reporter once spotted her engrossed in deep conversation with the Pope. He crept within earshot, all the while wondering what important issues the ambassador and ...

I arrive at my Network meeting and it’s a full house, the visitor hosts have glasses of juice cold and fresh for me and my guest who immediately picks up the positive vibe in our decorum and intent.
After 10 mins of networking “spot on time, we get on with the agenda”, a few dazzling ONE minute slots and exactly 15 minutes later I introduce my guest who is keen to join as there is another applicant offering...

SC Charity Collections
|
| |
Southern Cross Chapter has initiated a collection box which is passed around at their breakfast meeting. This box also acts as the inevitable “fines due” as a result of any misdemeanors practiced by individual members. Different needy organizations are chosen by the members to receive the benefits.
Here is a little story on the latest recipient which received R515,48 on 10th December 2003. Sandy Hotz of Southern ...

From Across The Sea

Eleanor was one of the founding members of the Kenilworth chapter (now renamed Southern Cross).
She owns two “B &B’s” – one in Muizenberg and one in the Southern part of the Drakensberg Mountains, a village called Rhodes. She did not receive one referral for close to a year. Then we had a young man join our chapter who only stayed a short while, before transferring to England (and BNI). His mother came on holiday to Cape Town and st...

Givers Gain
|
| |
A referral from Greg to design his house in North Oaks led to a string of further referrals which highlighted the advantages of being a BNI member. Greg met and recommended Peter A to me, who in turn recommended his neighbour Peter B. Peter B recommended his colleague Aiden, who recommended his neighbour. The initial referral from Greg led to five confirmed commissions and in each instance, I was able to recommend various other professionals from BNI to assist with ...

How BNI Changed My Business and Life
|
| |
In February of 2001 I took my first bold step on the path of entrepreneurship. It was definitely a “where fools fear to tread process”, as I was armed with enthusiasm, perseverance and love for the industry of my choice but with little else. In fact I had no resources, no equipment and no formal training in starting and operating my own business.
I learned by trial and error and received support from areas that I did not know existed before...

Keeping All The People Happy All The Time

Sandy Hotz, an Estate Agent with the largest International Property Group, Remax, has worked in the Kenilworth area for some 23 years. She has sold homes across, next to and behind Karen’s home, but has not had direct dealings with Karen. Karen decided her home was not looking well for her and called Sandy in for a valuation with a view to sell.
Sandy mentioned that the lovely Victorian Townhouse would be difficult to replace for Karen, and suggested tha...

The Importance Of Visitors
|
| |
We had a visitor looking to see how BNI worked so that he could join up with the East Rand chapter when it opened.
He presented his 60 second talk and as he walked out the restaurant I asked if he could give me the name of his training co-ordinator. He was so easy to communicate with and said he would find out who I should talk to. Wendy Cragg, our sales lady followed up the contact with him.
