How paying attention can help reap rewards

Mike Shorten had difficulty in getting a meeting with a prospect. He remembered what I had said about driving traffic to a web site with search engine optimisation, so he tried a search of the client’s web site and could not find it. He used this information along with the fact that the client’s telephone number was not visible from the highway where most of his goods are displayed.

He met with the client and suggested that they sort out their web site along with the business issues that Mike had identified. The client asked about improving his web site and Mike said that he could refer someone (me). Mike phoned me with the referral and I immediately phone the client. The client was surprised that I had responded so soon and we met the next day. The meeting took all of 45 minutes and the client signed up with me to build him a new web site that would compete internationally.

The lessons learnt are that we should all pay attention to our networking colleagues businesses & understand how we can use each others businesses/skills to strengthen our own positions. The other lesson is to respond as soon as possible as this makes the introduction easier and creates a good impression with the client.
